Dave Bailey & Gary Walford with the Dixie Heroes at East Malvern RSL next Wednesday the 18th of April

Just a reminder that the next  night of Jazz presented by the Victorian Jazz Club for 2018 at the East Malvern RSL will be next   Wednesday the 18th of April   between 7.30 & 10.00 pm with Melbourne musicians the Dixie Heroes with special guests Dave Bailey on clarinet and Gary Walford on piano.

The Dixie Heroes are well known musicians Ray Lewis on trombone, Richard Mander bass and     Lynn Wallis drums.

Dave Bailey travelled to Australia from the UK in 1965 and settled in well into the Melbourne jazz scene playing with all the best New Orleans style bands and recording with the Frank Turville band at Tony Standish’s legendary Heritage sessions before becoming a permanent member of the Yarra Yarra Band  and travelling with the band in 1970 for their first European tour. Dave remained in the UK playing clarinet and alto sax with traditional bands including Ken Colyer and touring with American cornet master Wild Bill Davison as well as bands led by drummer John Petters. He has lived in Germany for the last thirty years and is in Melbourne for a short holiday and is playing the one professional engagement next Wednesday for the Victorian Jazz Club.

Joining the band from Sydney on piano is Gary Walford who has been playing with the Geoff Bull Band for close to fifty years as well as leading the Unity Hall Jazz Band for decades.

A great night of  hot jazz , western swing, ballads , rhythm & blues and boogie  for dancers and listeners, not to be missed !

New Orleans Comes To Melbourne This Sunday

Every Sunday New Orleans comes to Melbourne at the Clyde Hotel, Elgin Street Carlton between 1.00 and 4.00 pm with the Louisiana Shakers, a band that has been playing Down Home Revival Jazz for over thirty years. This Sunday the band will be John Kelly on clarinet, Les Fithall trombone & vocals , Tony Orr guitar & banjo, Peter Grey bass , Kevin Bolton drums and special guest Des Camm trumpet & vocals.
