Some Jazz Doings on New Year’s Eve

MANY jazz musicians and delegates will be seeing the New Year in at the 67th Australian Jazz Convention at Forbes, New South Wales after 6 days of wall to wall jazz leading up to the climax of the New Year’s Eve Ball.
The Convention began in 1946 and has continued annually since then – the longest running jazz event of its kind in the world.

For those who didn’t choose to make the journey north, here are a few New Year’s Eve jazz opportunities in and around Melbourne.

The Vines Restaurant, Coldstream

And for something a bit more out of town, THE VINES Restaurant at the Helen’s Hill Vineyard, 16 Ingram Road, Coldstream. (Melways Reference 282 C11) will present a trio of well known jazz musicians – Will Purcell, Ian Smith and Patrick Miller – to entertain diners from 8.00pm till after the witching hour. The vineyard is at the start of the Yarra Valley, about 45 minutes from Ivanhoe. I am assured that the restaurant provides elegant dishes created from fresh local produce, complemented by the vineyards own wines. And that the views are stunning. Rumour also has it that a close relative of jazzers Graeme and Elizabeth Harvey has something to do with the venue. Bookings on 9739 0222 or events@vinesrestaurant.com.au.

May your Christmas be joyous and the New Year open more doors and windows for you to the excitement, passion and joy of jazz
